Heather Gutekunst, MD
A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Dr. Gutekunst is thrilled to practice and raise a family in her hometown.
“My interest in allergy and asthma stemmed from a desire to continue to care for adults and children after completing a comprehensive residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Georgetown University, where I was honored to serve as Chief Internal Medicine and Pediatric Resident. Practicing allergy allows me to focus my expertise for this patient population in a field that continues to grow. I was able to complete a wonderful fellowship at the University of Virginia under mentors that are leaders in the field of allergy and asthma. Upon completing fellowship, I was fortunate to care for patients as a faculty member at Duke University Hospital where I served also as Medical Director of the Asthma and Airway Center before joining Allergy Partners of Raleigh in 2013.”
Her interests within the field include allergic rhinitis, asthma and mammalian meat allergy. She is married to her husband of nearly 11 years, Jon, and they have two children ranging in age from 4 to 6 years.
“During my spare time, I enjoy running half marathons and triathlons, volunteering at my son’s school and teaching Bible Study at our church.”
